Uses of Present Continuous Tense

1) To represent the work that is ongoing.

e.g. * वह खा रहा है।

     - He is eating.

      * श्रुति स्कूल जा रही है।

     - Shruti is going to school.

2) To represent the possibility for intentions.

e.g. * वह मरने वाला है।

       - He is going to die.

     * मैं एक नया स्मार्टफोन खरीदने जा रहा हूँ

      - I am going to buy a new smartphone.

     * वह इस स्टेज पर परफॉर्मेंस देने जा राही है।

      - She is going to give a performance on this stage.

3) To represent an action that is happening about this time but not necessarily at the moment of speaking.

e.g. * वह इन दिनों गणित पढ़ रहा है।

     - He is reading mathematics these days.

      * मैं विभिन्न प्रकार की कोडिंग भाषाएँ सीख रहा हूँ जैसे Java, Python, C++ इत्यादि। 

     - I am learning different types of coding languages like Java, Python, C++, etc. 

4) To represent the events, works, or programs, which occur in future time.

Note- In this case, We need to use adverbs that represent the adverb of time. 

   In other words, We can say that:- In this case, only those words are used that represent a fixed program or plan which takes place in the near future time, not in the past time such as tomorrow, next year, next day, this evening, tonight, etc.

e.g. * मैं अगले साल एक कार खरीद रहा हूँ

     - I am buying a car next year.

     * वे कल आ रहे हैं। 

     - They are coming tomorrow.

     * मुख्यमंत्री 6 बजे उतर रहे हैं।  

     - The chief minister is landing at 6 o'clock.

      * वह कल ट्रेन से लौट रही है। 

     - She is returning tomorrow by train.

5) To represent an action that is already planned or arranged to take place in the near future.

e.g. * मैं आज रात पार्टी करने जा रहा हूँ

     - I am going to the party tonight.

     * वह आज मुंबई के लिए रवाना हो रहा हैं। 

     - He is leaving for Mumbai today.

6) To describe the changes that take place on the daily basis or in a progressive way.

e.g. * प्रदूषण दिन-प्रतिदिन बढ़ता जा रहा है।

    - Pollution is increasing day by day.

      * इन दिनों प्याज की कीमत बढ़ रही है। 

    - The price of onion is increasing these days.

7) With the help of some words, it is used to do those works which are habitual or frequently opposite to others.

Those words are- Always, Continually, Constantly, Forever.

e.g. * वह हमेशा शिकायत करती रहती है।

     - She is always complaining.

      * वह हमेशा अपने नाखून काटता रहता है।

     - He is always biting his nails.

      * वे लगातार चिल्लाते रहते हैं।

     - They are constantly shouting.
